THE PLAN

WHEN THE WATER STREET TRESTLE IS REHABILITATED you might be surprised, especially if you lived in Petaluma any time up until 1994. Because this is what the WATER STREET TRESTLE looked like at the time she could support an 89-ton diesel locomotive...and more than 4000 people during the various river-facing festivals Petaluma was famous for throughout the decades. Take a close look: it's almost seamless the way rail and platform flow into community and industry. That's probably what McNear and his team of visionaries had in mind. He wanted rail to be part of life. The life of Petaluma. And, ultimately, the life blood of Sonoma County. Which the Petaluma & Santa Rosa Railway was: an artery of commerce and culture delivered by rail. But if you are an armchair engineer and have a thirst for the minutiae of schematics, then we invite you to study the plans. Considering they cost close to half a million to prepare, we're thinking that Petalumans, and those who love this town, can spare an extra hour or two to take a closer look.  {At the City of Petaluma web site, scroll down to the LOWER RIGHT CORNER LINK.)
